    Description

Profusely illustrated in color and black-and-white, this early out-of-print book is a collector’s item in itself.
WAVE CREST WARE – An Illustrated Guide to the Victorian World of C.F. Monroe
by Elsa H. Grimmer, Wallace-Homestead Book Co., IA,  1979.
“Charles F. Monroe founded a glass decorating business at the turn of the last century and began producing fine opalware items.  Later, these elegant Victorian pieces became known as Wave Crest ware.  This book, with its beautiful color plates, shows the fine artistic quality of many top decorators during this period.  Wave Crest ware is a small part of the glass collecting field, but as the beauty of its pieces is recognized, will grow tremendously in the future.”
Approximately 200 items are pictured in color and identified in this text.  In addition, another 50 items are illustrated and identified in reproduced “Selections from the 1900-1901 No. 6 Catalog.”  Illustrated are perfumes / perfume atomizers, mirror puffs, handkerchief boxes, hair receivers, cuff boxes, bon-bons, cigar jars / humidors, sugars, creamers, syrups, biscuit jars, card holders and photo receivers, and much more.  Also included is a brief history of C.F. Monroe and the C.F. Monroe Company, a section on Identification of Blanks, and Company Signatures.  This rare book would make a fine addition to the permanent reference library of the collector, dealer, or historian of American art glass.
